Classy Horror

Sometimes children are creepy. Especially if the children drive their nannies to suicide and cause baboons to attack.

Which brings me to The Omen.

The first time I saw this film I was sure that it would be cheesy and unmemorable.

Boy was I wrong.

The film reminded me of my days of babysitting. I remember the tantrums. The cacophony of screams and babbles. I remember how my body ached to be free from the children.

I remember all of these things because the most significant element of this film is how neither parent is able to bond with their child. He becomes alien to them.

I could sympathize. I didn’t always have a bond to the children.

The horrific things that happen in the film feel plausible. What I mean to suggest is that you could easily watch this film from the view point that both parents are loosing their minds.

What if the child is a healthy normal child of no dark origins. In that instance this film would represent the story of a crumbling family.

It is that doubt that eats away at Gregory Peck’s character. His struggle is what really gives weight to this story. He loves his son.

There are some utterly frightening moments that give this film immediacy.

Take for instance Mrs. Baylock. Her performance was amazing. Somewhere between her clipped responses and her deep voice lurks pure evil.

This is a fantastic movie.

If you want to really question your faith you can look up the story of the making of the movie.

Or watch the documentary on the collector’s disc. There were a lot of ‘fatalities’ and accidents that befell the creators of this film.

Hooray!

I have a lot of work to do before this day is over. I just thought I should mention that after a very long night I have a new ad for my shop!

The picture is from my new shop mascot! She is about 2 inches tall and an inch wide. She also happens to be a finger puppet.

I have a few coming into the shop this weekend. For now they need some finishing.

Oh my ad can be seen online on one of my favorite blogs, The Dainty Squid. I love visiting her blog. In my younger more rebellious youth I used to browse through antique shops and hunt for awesome vintage wares.

Seeing her thrift finds remind me of those moments.

Preoccupied

I have been busy. For a while now. But that is because I have an itty bitty secret.

I will be in a local craft show in about two weeks.

I have been creating non stop for weeks now. I have been too busy to photography…to blog. I am hoping to fill my little table up with all sorts of awesome new products.

The image above makes me happy. It reminds me of fall.
I have a lot of new goals for this fall. My shops will be going through a transformation.

This week I will be trying to get some photos of all the new items. This weekend I will have a sneak peek for the blog.
Have a great week.

** Both of my shops are currently on vacation until after the craft show. I just won’t have the time to ship anything out. **

Knee Deep

I have been knitting and sewing in a frenzy.
If I were to put down my pair of knitting needles I would be just as likely to pick up a needle and thread.

Even watching tv or eating breakfast has become a multi-tasking wonder. On Thursday I made pancakes and fried eggs for breakfast while also knitting and making a new doll pattern.

Its an endless cycle.

The goal is too keep up this momentum for the next two weeks. More on that later.

For now I have a tiny pile of blue fabric just waiting to be sewn up.

You wouldn’t know it to look at it but all of that fabric represent the limbs and torso of two new plushies.

Sounds gory. I promise that no plushies are being harmed.

I will have more sneak peeks tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!

Shop Update

I woke up this morning to a brief moment of clear skies, a rare treat thanks to the monsoon season in AZ, I leapt out of bed and took as many pictures as humanly possible.

It was hilarious. I was a whirling dervish.

I now have a selection of mini-clutches and accent pillows in my shop.

Adding to all of this mayhem I gathered up a few choice items in my Etsy store and put them into a new section, Under 5.00 dollars.

AND

Over at my Big Cartel shop, Rx Knits, I lowered all the prices by 50%. Shocking I know.

It seems drastic but I have a new line of knitted bags coming out. Much more structured and luxurious. I would rather focus on that scale of craftsmanship for the fall.
So these knits are getting a necessary price drop.

Next week just proper blog entries. Thats a promise!

Etsy Inspiration

I love logging into Etsy. Inspiration is around every corner. I just had to round up my favorite Etsy finds into one lovely treasury: Summer Lovin’

On a personal note, I have much more to do before my shop update. Such as, scurry around and take some product photos.

For now go on over and enjoy the day!

Cost of Inspiration

I am in the throes of productivity. I am drawing, designing, making patterns and sewing like my life depended on it.

Its a great time but little to no time is spent writing or blogging. I am sorry for the neglect but work is a necessary evil.

That said I have been thinking about how doing what I love has become a larger part of my life than anyone could have anticipated.

Everyone except director Michael Powell and actress Moira Shearer. The Red Shoes is one of my favorite films.

It is a beautiful and tragic film. I have been watching it while I design new patterns. It makes work feel magical.

If you have Netflix you can watch this film online.

I will stop by again this weekend after a proper shop update!

Have a great week!

A Must See

I have been patiently waiting all summer for the movie Inception to release into theatres.

Lucky for me the release date was this Friday.

I had a few misgivings about the nature the story. Concerns that melted away after the first 4 minutes.

I spent the rest of the film in a state of taut suspense. I was so caught up in the movie that I was getting dizzy with panic.
There just didn’t seem to be enough time.

Which is amusing because the film is a little on the long side. Which was hard to believe since it all went by so fast.

I highly recommend the movie because it was far better than anything seen in the trailers.

I really didn’t want the film to end.

The Road Ahead

I have been avoiding this blog. When I come here I tell the truth. So I ran away from the blog and got lost.

Where writers are prone to blocks I am prone to bouts of fantasy. I disappear into some strange new obession and try ignore the problem at hand.

My problem is location. I need to move. If I want to nurture both my business and my personal goals I need to move closer to the city.

I have a few funny illustrations I have been working on that I thought I might add to this blog.
As a series.

More on that tomorrow. For now, goodnight!
