Snapshots

As promised I have few snapshots of my work space.

The photos don’t really capture the craft anarchy.

I didn’t want to broadcast my mess.

I have been having fun the last three weeks discovering new techniques and playing with new yarn. This week I complete a few dolls to post online and start sewing linings and totes (more on that later).

Morning Horror

I know I said I would start out with Blood Simple but it was not meant to be, Netflix took it off-line on Oct. 1, I will have to postpone until next week.

I must stress that some films do not age well.

Take for instance, The Lost Boys.

As a kid this movie gave me nightmares. Okay maybe that is an exaggeration. I was afraid of my window. Weird? Vampires linger outside of windows…ever close to gaining entrance to your home.

That is a trip for any kid afraid of her own shadow.

I had held this movie up as a cult icon. Boy was I wrong.

The vampire phenomenom is not my thing. I like a good zombie flick. The vampires are all touchy feely. I don’t need the drama. I want to see a horror movie for the action not for the melodramatic close ups.

An enjoyable turn of events is how all the male vampires seem to be really into non-vampire guys.
The guys had some pretty steamy chemistry.

***The title is a misnomer…no horror today, just vampires vamping it up.l***

Hooray!

I have a lot of work to do before this day is over. I just thought I should mention that after a very long night I have a new ad for my shop!

The picture is from my new shop mascot! She is about 2 inches tall and an inch wide. She also happens to be a finger puppet.

I have a few coming into the shop this weekend. For now they need some finishing.

Oh my ad can be seen online on one of my favorite blogs, The Dainty Squid. I love visiting her blog. In my younger more rebellious youth I used to browse through antique shops and hunt for awesome vintage wares.

Seeing her thrift finds remind me of those moments.

Truth Be Told

There is a story behind every item that I create. The story however is not what you may think.

Knitting is a solitary pursuit. In order to complete items of large size or complexity you must submit to a lot of work. That work however is horribly monotonous.
My hands do all the hard work. Sure I have a vivid imagination but I’ve caught myself dozing while I knit. My hands just keep on knitting…I’ve woken up to realize that I ruined a pattern I have even pulled stitches off the needle.

In my effort to combat mid-day sleepiness as well as to make these hours bearable I watch a lot of movies, listen to the radio, watch football, and more than anything else I watch reality shows.

If you have purchased something from me you should know that whatever it is it is a product of pure pop culture.

With Tyra Banks and Tim Gunn as a mentor how could I not be inspired?

Life is not, what not

At one time I had a very active blog. I have made a big change and have become more productive with my knitting and sewing.

Sure I blog less but that loss of time has resulted in some very good things, take for instance these works in progress:

These are just sneak peeks. There are several new items going up in my shop this Friday.
New photo shoot tonight…endless hours editing for Thursday.

I am very excited about October. I have a few new goals for the blog.

I figure instead of saying I am busy I should show what I am currently working on, like above, and I also miss talking about movies on this blog.

I love October.
Every year I spend the whole month watching horror films. Some people like roller coaster rides or skydiving me I just need a quick jolt of fear and I feel right as rain.

The blog isn’t named crafty horror for nothing.

I will be going through cheesy cult horror films, foreign frights, and gory flicks through out the month.

My first film will be my favorite Coen brother’s movie, Blood Simple.

FACT: Most of my blog titles are lines from movies. This one is from Sixteen Candles.

Knee Deep

I have been knitting and sewing in a frenzy.
If I were to put down my pair of knitting needles I would be just as likely to pick up a needle and thread.

Even watching tv or eating breakfast has become a multi-tasking wonder. On Thursday I made pancakes and fried eggs for breakfast while also knitting and making a new doll pattern.

Its an endless cycle.

The goal is too keep up this momentum for the next two weeks. More on that later.

For now I have a tiny pile of blue fabric just waiting to be sewn up.

You wouldn’t know it to look at it but all of that fabric represent the limbs and torso of two new plushies.

Sounds gory. I promise that no plushies are being harmed.

I will have more sneak peeks tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!

Shop Update

I woke up this morning to a brief moment of clear skies, a rare treat thanks to the monsoon season in AZ, I leapt out of bed and took as many pictures as humanly possible.

It was hilarious. I was a whirling dervish.

I now have a selection of mini-clutches and accent pillows in my shop.

Adding to all of this mayhem I gathered up a few choice items in my Etsy store and put them into a new section, Under 5.00 dollars.

AND

Over at my Big Cartel shop, Rx Knits, I lowered all the prices by 50%. Shocking I know.

It seems drastic but I have a new line of knitted bags coming out. Much more structured and luxurious. I would rather focus on that scale of craftsmanship for the fall.
So these knits are getting a necessary price drop.

Next week just proper blog entries. Thats a promise!

Maturity

I have a feeling that somewhere between my last year and this year I was supposed to grow out of this kind of humor:

Maybe next year I will be too mature to enjoy this. Maybe.

Around the Bend

This month’s blog carnival is hosted by Rainy Day Art who posed an appropriate question: What are your goals?

I have thought of nothing else for weeks. I am in an uncomfortable position. I love Etsy. I love knitting. I am however struggling to make knitted items that can be marketed every season and items that are affordable.

This struggle has forced me to think realistically about my shops. Which leads me to goals I feel might work.

Start from scratch. This is in reference to my work process which starts out on knitting needles. I want to start each bag from a pattern and that way there are no “OOAK” bags that although unique triple my actual work load.
Wake up early. Each day is a negotiation between how much sleep I ought to get and how much work I can fit into each available hour. Life would be much easier if I just woke up at a decent time.
Take a break. Sometimes I have a lot of stress. As fortune would have it I have taken my hobby and turned it into a business. I need a new hobby.
Stop fighting my desires. I am a filmmaker. I have stories that need to be told. I am currently working on a basic no frills film treatment.
Work like mad. This winter I want to fill up both my shops with knitted goods.

I gotta run.

My parents are coming up to visit me this weekend. I have a lot of cooking planned. This Sunday I will be cooking a feast for Father’s day.

Have a great weekend!

Quick My Love

I haven’t been around. Been sick. Nothing worrisome. I can’t concentrate on anything when I’m sick.

I feel all happy and giddy though. Getting well suits me.

I want to share this lovely feeling, which brings me to this great illustration. *I want to find the source…if you know who this belongs to please let me know!

I will be back later with another post. For now have a great day!
